At Haven, we love beautiful home furnishings and lovely decor….but we also know these special places can be used for lovely, happy, and inspiring quality family and friend time. Why do we have these beautiful places…havens…if we do not share them with our loved ones, dearest friends, and community?
One way I enjoy sharing my Haven is with my Book Club. My Book Club consists of five loving, strong, crazy fun, compassionate, endearing, giving, God-fearing, beautiful women. We have gathered together, in each other’s Haven’s, for four years. When we started there were only four kids and now our tribe has thirteen kids amongst the five families. The special thing about our Book Club is that we not only laugh, cry, dream, pray, love, and encourage each other every time we get together but also when we are not together. I have been blessed more by this group than I ever could have dreamed or hoped for…these women, dear friends, mean the world to me and I am a better wife, mom, friend, colleague, and Christian because of them.
“Find your tribe. Love them hard.”
My favorite book our Book Club has read since we started was Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist. This book is perfect for “those who love food and value the community and connection of family and friends around the table.” Bread & Wine is a collection of essays about family relationships, friendships, and the meals that bring us together. This book is a “funny, honest, and vulnerable spiritual memoir. Bread & Wine is a celebration of food shared, reminding readers of the joy found in a life around the table. It’s about the ways God teaches and nourishes people as they nourish the people around them. It’s about hunger, both physical and otherwise, and the connections between the two. With wonderful recipes included, from Bacon-Wrapped Dates to Mango Chicken Curry to Blueberry Crisp, readers will be able to recreate the comforting and satisfying meals that come to life in Bread & Wine.”
The dear friend, in my book club, that hosted that month cooked a few recipes from the book and we loved all of it. It was such a special night to enjoy each others company, talk through our favorite parts of Bread & Wine, and discuss our dreams, hopes, and prayer requests with each other.
“Encourage each other & build each other up.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
I encourage you to not only enjoy creating your lovely, happy, and inspired Haven but also hope you seek out and find those women in your life that you can create a Book Club with…those people you love and that love you back! Take a moment and preview Bread & Wine on Amazon. I have no doubt you will enjoy it as much as all of my Book Club did.
